Stress, stress, stress… and sadness

This holiday season has been an incredibly hard time for me.  Mostly because AJ has been gone, not only for all the holidays, but also for our first anniversary, which was yesterday, but for other reasons as well.

For one, I transferred to a new command.  With that comes another problem, when I moved into the barracks I was told that I should move out ASAP since I’m married I’m not actually entitled to having a barracks room.  Once I checked in with PSD, I was told that I didn’t need to route a chit, that I simply needed to bring in a copy of my lease and the form stating that I had check out of the barracks.  So I return to PSD, both in hand, and I’m told that because my husband is military as well, I do have to route a chit, and unless the barracks are full, I will most likely be denied.  Previously it didn’t matter if I was married mil-to-mil, simply that I’m married, and now it does.  And I’ve already gone through the trouble of finding an apartment and gIetting everything ready to move in!!  I even moved out of the barracks, so I no longer have a place to live until I get moved in, but I can’t afford to have the apartment without getting BAH.  So I’m kinda stuck… Thanks PSD and CBH, thanks for all the ‘help’.

All that happened the day I went on leave for Christmas/New Years.  Talk about unneeded stress added to an already stressful holiday season.  If the people who were there to help had the same information, maybe they wouldn’t have problems like this.  Of course, this is the nave we’re talking about.

AJ is due back sometime in March, and I’m really looking forward to it.  Unfortunately, I’m set to deploy in July/August, and they will be going to Bremerton, Wa for 16 months of maintenance, then changing home ports to Everett, Washington for at least 3 years.  What that boils down to is: On our 2nd anniversary, we will have spend less than a year’s worth of time together, plus we’ll be stationed 1300 miles for at least 2 or 3 years.  So for the next 4 years I’m just going to have to keep telling myself “I love my husband, I love my husband, I love my husband.”

Oh did I mention I didn’t even get to talk to him on our anniversary?

Sigh.

Home ‘Crafted Holidays: Recipes in a Bottle

Posted in Uncategorized on December 3, 2009 by aedd

Its been a crazy couple of weeks with Thanksgiving on top on transferring commands and moving into a new barracks And for the icing on the crazy/hectic cake, I also just got in touch with family I haven’t seen or spoken to since I was four (getting in touch with them is a good thing btw).

In spite of all this craziness, I’m thrilled to participating in Domestic Witch’s Home ‘Crafted Holidays!  Unfortunately, due to the move I haven’t been able to actually make my craft, so I hope that I can fully express it with just words! So on with the show!

My favorite ‘craft’ for gift giving is what I like to call Recipes in a Bottle. I was originally given this idea by a friend who gifted me something similar. It’s a great way to share a favorite recipe with friends and family! This year I wanted to make Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies, a recipe that I’m always asked for. For this you can use any type of container you’d like as long as it has a lid with a tight seal, preferable a tall container rather than fat! Make sure the dry ingredients will all fit inside without much room left over. I use a Mason jar for mine.

My Recipe:
Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. In large bowl, beat butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt; stir into the butter mixture until well blended. Mix in the chocolate chips and walnuts. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or just until set. Cool slightly on the cookie sheets before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

What you need:
A mason jar and lid (the kind with a ring)
Small square of fabric (big enough to cover mouth of jar)
Ribbon
Cardstock, recipe card, or something of the sort
Hole punch
Pen (or printer)
Dry ingredients from your recipe:

  • Sugar
  • Flour
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Baking Soda
  • Salt
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Walnuts

Measure out the correct amount of ingredients, but keep them separate. Remember its only the dry ingredients. Mix the flour, salt and baking soda, since there are such small amounts of salt and baking soda.

In the jar (which should be clean) layer the ingredients as you see fit, try to alternate colors and don’t make the layers level for a more artsy look, just like sand art! Once you’ve used the ingredients and the jar is mostly full, place the lid (without the ring) on top of the jar. Place the square of fabric on top of that. Your fabric can be anything you like, and the edges don’t have to be straight, break out the scrapbook scissors and get creative! Once you’ve placed your fabric on top of the lid, screw the ring on top of that as tightly as possible.

Next take your cardstock, recipe card, or whatever you want to use, and write your recipe on it (or you could print it or use calligraphy). Once again, feel free to be creative with both the card and the writing, just make it readable, the recipe is part of the gift and they need it for the ingredients in your bottle to be useful. Once you have the recipe down, fold the card in half and punch a hole in one of the corners. Label the outside with ‘To:/From:’ if you wish, then string the ribbon through the hole. Tie the ribbon around the top of the mason jar, tightly enough that it won’t fall, and you’re done!

You now have a thoughtful, creative, and yummy gift for a loved one! Experiment with different recipes, containers, or whatever! Hope you enjoy giving this gift as much as I have, and thank you to Domestic Witch for including me in her holiday cheer!

My Current State

Posted in Uncategorized on November 22, 2009 by aedd

I know its been a while since I’ve posted, and that I promised I would get on a writing schedule so I would post more frequently, and for the one person that knows that, I’m sorry. This past week has been extremely difficult for me.

AJ left for Bahrain on Tuesday, and honestly I’m falling apart. I was of the belief that because I’ve done this before, it would be a little easier, but its even harder this time, and I’m not sure why. The littlest things make me breakdown and bawl my eyes out, for example, I was looking for a belt and I found the one I had last worn while AJ was here and went to put it on, before I could do so it needed to be readjusted (it’s a seat-belt belt) because he was playing with it, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it, and ended up crying over it. So yeah, I’m a huge mess now. I’m actually considering going to the chaplain to talk to him (or her) about it, despite the fact that they don’t have a pagan/wiccan chaplain.

I was also really looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with him since I knew he would be gone for Christmas, our anniversary, New Years, and Valentine’s Day. Now that he’s gone, I have no idea what I’m going to do with myself over these holidays and how I’m going to keep myself from simply falling to pieces. What makes it even more difficult is that I don’t have much in the way of friends and family around here, and what I really need now is a shoulder to cry on and someone to hold me.

Since I’m transferring to my command this week, I’m hoping I will be able to find some distraction, and I’m planning to keep myself as busy as possible. Once I transfer I’m going to begin a regular workout schedule and also begin working on my training and PQS on the job as much as possible. Not really sure what else I can do to keep myself distracted, but I’m going to work on it. Maybe I’ll begin writing more, and researching and reading about all the religious aspects and interest me as well.

Today is Navy day (actually yesterday was…)

Posted in Uncategorized on November 11, 2009 by aedd

So I’ve already screwed up following my schedule, but I’m hoping to double post today to make up for it. The holiday (and day off) has kinda thrown it off a bit. We came home last night, and we’ll be returning later today sometime. So on with the real post (from yesterday). I decided Tuesdays should be Navy day, so here’s whats going on with me and AJ Navy-wise.

I’m almost done with my last school, only just under two weeks left. I’m actually doing really well, we’ve taken either 4 or 5 tests, and I’ve made a 90+ on all but one. We only have two left, one of which is on Monday, plus a Final and a lab. I’m really excited about being done with my training and actually getting to start doing my job.

Speaking of which, I transfer to my command on the 25th. I’m really excited. My division is currently deployed, so I probably won’t be up to a lot until they get back, it’ll be nice though, give me time to get used to my new command.

Alan should also be deploying soon, so I’m trying to spend as much time with him as possible. With me transferring right before Thanksgiving and him leaving some time after it may hard, and I don’t know what we’re going to do for Thanksgiving, although I really want to be able to do something since it is most likely the only holiday we’ll get this year, considering he’s supposed to be gone until March.

I’ve also heard that I will probably be deploying next November, so that would make two holiday seasons in a row for us… ah this is the life… or not. I’m wondering what I’ll do about my blog when that time comes as well, but it’ll be awhile so I’ll have to wait and see where I am with it by then.

Random updates and mumblings

Posted in Uncategorized on November 9, 2009 by aedd

Well, so far so good, I’m writing my first ‘scheduled’ post. I’m having computer issues, probably thanks to my upgrade to Windows 7. I must say I do like Windows 7 so far, but I really haven’t done a lot with it.

We had a fairly boring weekend, it was relaxing though. We went to my mother-in-laws and did nothing, quite literally. AJ played the new Ratchet and Clank on his brand new PS3 and I surfed the net and watched him.

We ended up buying him a PS3 and a TV to play it on, along with his Ratchet and Clank game last week. He just had to play the new Ratchet and Clank, so he had to buy the system to play it on. Now I just hope we’ll make use out of it other than that, and he won’t sell it like he did the last system he bought.

I got an email from my sponsor, actually two, I’m looking forward to reporting, although they’re on deployment so I won’t have much to do at work. He seems like he’s going to be a good sponsor, unlike some of the ones I’ve heard of.

AJ and I decided to hold off on getting our own place until he gets back. It will be easier on us financially. But it may end up being the better option for me when I transfer, so I’ll have to wait and see.

I’m off Wednesday, so maybe I’ll be able to enjoy some good quality time with AJ, if he’s off… if not, its time to sleep late!!

Starting a schedule

Posted in Uncategorized on November 9, 2009 by aedd

I know I need to start updating more often and more regularly, but sometimes its just hard to do. To help in that effort, I sat down (ok I did it in class while I wasn’t paying attention) and wrote out a brief little schedule to follow to get me into the habit of updating. I’m sure once I get into the habit I’ll stray from the schedule, but that’s kinda my goal.

I’m hoping to get started on this schedule today, so keep you fingers crossed! We’ll see what happens!

I’m also going to change my banner and layout from my Halloween one as soon as I make a new one!
